Broadening Participation Pledge
The CUbiC center is committed to broadening participation in semiconductor research and recognizes the importance of fostering workforce diversity to drive excellence. The center’s diversity initiative, led by Prof. Michal Lipson and Prof. Alex Meng at Columbia University, strives to increase the involvement and representation of individuals from underrepresented groups, including women, racial and ethnic minorities, and individuals with disabilities, in semiconductor research and industry.
At CUbiC, we take pride in having more than 20% of our scholars from gender and race minority groups, and we fully acknowledge the ongoing efforts to recruit students from these underrepresented backgrounds for the future. To honor the contributions and achievements of minority students, we have established the CUbiC Travel Fellowship, which recognizes the academic excellence of students from minority and underrepresented groups and provides opportunities for their further education and professional growth.
In addition, we actively engage our scholars in diversity initiatives through partnerships with two major programs at Columbia Engineering. One such program is the Science Honors Program, where our scholars will mentor predominantly minority high school students weekly, providing valuable guidance and support to aspiring future engineers. Furthermore, we proudly participate in the Summer High School Academic Program for Engineers (SHAPE), inspiring and educating talented students and encouraging their pursuit of semiconductor and engineering careers. The associated lectures and presentations will be accessible on our upcoming CUbiC website, ensuring our expertise benefits a broader audience beyond the program participants.
Overall, the CUbiC center is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in engineering. We are committed to ensuring equal opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to excel and contribute to the future of the field.
