The 2024 Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition (OFC) took place in San Diego, California from March 24th to 28th. This conference was well attended by CUbiC PIs and scholars who participated in a variety of ways ranging from invited panel and workshop speakers to paper submissions. The following are some of CUbiC’s achievements during OFC:

  • CUbiC PI Bowers provided a short course titled, “ High-Speed Semiconductor Lasers and Modulators”.
    • His work was also featured in post session presentations titled, “Tbps Net SiP O-band Coherent Transmission over 10 km Using a Quantum-Dot Mode-Locked Comb Laser" and “Co-Packaged Micro Reference Cavity with Photonic Integrated Circuits”.
  • CUbiC PI Stojanovic participated in a Special Session titled, Moore’s Law: A Photonics Perspective for the Next Decade presenting the following topic, “In-Package Optical I/O: Bridging the Gap Between Moore's Law and Amdahl's Law in Modern Compute”.
    • His work was also featured in a symposia titled, “Monolithic Integration of Silicon Quantum Photonics and Electronics in a 45nm SOI CMOS Foundry Platform”.
  • CUbiC PIs Bergman and Wu were both invited speakers at two workshops, “Co-Packaged Optics: Is it Only for the Cloud or Also for the Edge AI Services?” and “Will Optical Switches Become a Key Element in High-Performance AI/ML Datacenter Networks?” where they discussed the use of optical circuit switches (OCS) in AI computing.
  • CUbiC PI Bergman additionally participated as an invited speaker on the “Cutting-Edge Technologies for Interconnecting AI/ML Clusters” panel.
  • "Multi-Span Optical Power Spectrum Prediction Using ML-Based EDFA Models and Cascaded Learning”* was a top-scored paper led by CUbiC scholar Zehao Wang (Ph.D. student in PI T. Chen’s group). This paper was also recognized as a finalist of the Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition and was invited to the Journal of Optical Communications Network special issue on top-scored papers from OFC 2024.
  • Additionally, OFC accepted 8 papers from CUbiC Scholars and PIs (in bold):
    • Asher S. Novick, Maarten Hattink, Anthony Rizzo, Yuyang Wang, Vignesh Gopal, Songli Wang, Robert Parsons, and Keren Bergman, “Integrated Photonic Resonant Modulator-Based Equalization and Optimization for DWDM.”
